CHRIS PUREKA - DRYLAND ....a trip to the middle of America's heartland and to Chris's heart as well.

If you like "from the heart music", you will be sunk, like I was from the beautiful folk guitar strummings to the opening of Chris's voice welcoming an old lover/friend on THESE PAGES, by asking how his girlfriend is doing.

"How's That going. She never liked me Oh, I wish you could stay&ldots;&ldots;. I've gathered these pages of words left unspoken I didn't send you&ldots;&ldots; I wish you could stay&ldots;."

With her friends/band, each cut is a carefully crafted piece of life, not unlike a Kent Haruff novel where often the simple words (and here music) tell a much more complex, rich life just below the surface of a seemingly placid scene. Banjoist, Sebastian Renfield finds the sweet spot on each song, sometimes underscoring, sometimes propelling the lyricism of Ms. Pureka.

On MOMENTARY THIEF,

"Well, I never won you over, I just caught you on a good day. Well there's no need to name this, We're just going to call it a day&ldots;. Yeah, I'll save you the trouble of running away, I'm already gone out the door and I stole this moment for me&ldots;indelible and bright."

On her own SMALL RABBIT Music label out of Westhampton, MA, this independent CD is a wonderful slice of life, inner and daily, and if you like folk music, made by real folks, I can recommend it, as it will grow with each listen&ldots;..Rather Russ
